Stage 2 – Young explorers
Learn about early settlers is Australia
Early Australia is an important part of our history. The crossing of the Blue Mountains by Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson is an integral part of our history. Student participating in the Young Explores program learn and experience what it would have been like in early Australia.
This program offers specific on-site activities and focuses on:
- Engaging the entire year group or activity group
- Students will learn about the crossing of the Blue Mountains as well history of the Upper Blue Mountains
- Experience challenges early settlers had through practical on site activities
- Activities available include: Damper making, orienteering, shelter making, billy cart making, initiative games, Hartley historic tour, NPWS tour of Wentworth Falls, early explorers based drama evening, Scenic World, history tour at Mt York – the final stop of the crossing of the Blue Mountains, metal workshop
Students participate in a series of local community service projects that serve that builds their leadership skills. Students are given the opportunity to reflect on their planning and implementation of their service project.
This program is at our Mount Victoria centre.
